Young women interested in developing their leadership skills are invited to apply for the Latinitas Teen Leadership Institute. The institute will consist of biweekly workshops on leadership methods, communication skills, decision making, goal setting, public speaking, civic engagement and volunteering. This leadership program is aimed at encouraging and motivating teenage girls to make a difference in their community through leadership, civic engagement, communications, social justice, advocacy and volunteerism. Young women will also engage in several interactive and entertaining activities that will help them identify and cultivate their own leadership abilities. The program will run throughout the fall leading up to a graduation ceremony in the December. Space is limited. The deadline to submit completed applications is September 19th. The membership fee is $20 and covers supply costs. Scholarships are available. Applications can be submitted via the web at

This event encourages girls to build confidence, discover their voice, express themselves and make wise decisions. The event will feature informative and inspirational workshops, guest speakers, panelists, and multimedia presentations led by local female leaders on topics such as body image, confidence, peer pressure, media literacy, leadership, healthy relationships, cultural identity and bullying. Girls will discuss the challenges facing girls today and explore positive ways to deal with stress through hands-on creative expression activities revolving around poetry, acting, photography, art and song. Girls will also enjoy dance performances. The event is open to girls ages 11-18. Admission is $5 and covers lunch. Space is limited, so pre-registration is required. Latinitas will partner with the La Fe Cultural & Technology Center to celebrate the creative talents of local girls in a special "Through Her Eyes" photography exhibit. The exhibit showcases the photography of El Paso residents ages 10 to 18 from Latinitas after-school clubs, a local youth program that uses creative multimedia education to empower Latina youth. The photos present a vibrant, expressive and fascinating portrait of the border community as depicted by youth photographers. The exhibit will be featured in the Community Gallery throughout April. Girls Grades 4-8
This Spring Break, girls in grades 4-8th are invited to find their creative expression outlet by producing original media arts projects in the Latinitas Media Divas Spring Break Camp. In this three-day camp, girls will explore multimedia arts such as photography, writing, art, design, radio production and film-making. The camp runs Monday through Wednesday from 9:00am to 5:00pm at the Latinitas El Paso Headquarters (1359 Lomaland, Gecko Room; El Paso, TX). Pre-registration is required.
