Peer Mentors Wanted

Would you like to mentor younger girls? We are currently recruiting high school female volunteers to serve as mentors in our weekly girl empowerment clubs. You can serve as a positive role model to encourage, motive and educate middle school girls. Our clubs are held on weekdays after school at various community sites. Teen Writers Wanted

Do you like to write? This is your opportunity to get published in a national award-winning magazine! TeenLatinitas.com is the first digital magazine by and for Latina teens. Join our team of reporters. As a magazine writer you will build your writing skills, meet professional editors and have your voice heard. We host monthly writing workshops the 2nd Saturday of each month at the Judge Marquez Public Library (610 N. Yarbrough) from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. We meet on the following dates: February 13, March 13, April 10 and May 8.


Teen Media Academy - March 15-19

This week-long Spring Break Camp for high schoolers offers intensive instruction from professional media producers. During the camp, girls will complete an article, photo essay, audio segment and a video broadcast. The cost is $25 for supplies. Pre-registration is required. Teen Leadership Institute - February 27

Discover your leadership talents through our year-long leadership institute. A select group of high school girls will be chosen to participate in monthly leadership workshops to learn how they can become a strong voice for their community. Members will commit to monthly meetings to learn about civic engagement, develop leadership techniques, connect with community leaders, attend field trips and organize volunteer projects. Girl Talk Workshops

Latinitas is offering a new series of girl empowerment workshops in partnership with local schools, libraries, recreation centers, Girl Scout troops, churches and youth groups. These workshops focus on helping girls build confidence through creative expression with themes such as self-esteem, media awareness, body image, leadership, goal setting, healthy relationships, violence prevention, diversity, cultural pride, substance abuse prevention, bullying and wellness. Start Your Own Club

Latinitas is launching a new series of affiliate clubs throughout El Paso and the surrounding region in partnership with local volunteers, community centers, schools and nonprofits. You can start a club in your neighborhood. Each club must have at least one female adult sponsor and 5 members. Clubs meet at various community sites at least once per month. Clubs are intended for girls in grades 4-8th. Latinitas provides a club leader training, club leader manual, supply starter kit, activity outlines and access to a lending library of equipment. Latinitas partners with various libraries to offer after-school programs where girls gather weekly for creative expression lessons. Our girl empowerment programs help Hispanic girls build confidence and express themselves creatively.

Latinitas Magazine is seeking female high-school students, ages 14 to 18, interested in journalism to contribute to www.TeenLatinitas.com, the first digital magazine by and for Latina teens. Latinitas will host an orientation for junior reporters on February 13th. Latinitas is dedicated to creating greater Latina representation in the media by training the next generation of Latina media makers. Through our teen reporter program, young journalists are published in our webzine. Latinitas college editorial interns and professional journalists mentor and guide Latina high-school journalists in developing story ideas, conducting interviews, researching stories, writing articles, and editing content. Furthermore, junior reporters act as an editorial advisory group helping to advise Latinitas staff in making editorial decisions on the content for each issue and the direction of the magazine. This is a great opportunity for aspiring journalists to be published in a growing magazine and have their voice heard! We are looking for fresh ideas on all content related to Latina youth culture appropriate for high-school students. Latinitas is currently accepting applications from female high-school students who seek hands-on journalism experience. Girls Grades 4-8

Girls are invited to get in touch with their artistic side in the Latinitas Saturday Camp. Girls in grades 4-8 will explore ways to express themselves creatively by creating Valentine's Day crafts, friendship bracelets, writing friendship poems and taking photos. The Latinitas Saturday Camp series is hosted the 2ndSaturday of every month from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Judge Marquez Public Library (610 N. Yarbrough).
