TEEN LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE - January 29

Young women interested in developing their leadership skills are invited to apply for the Teen Leadership Institute. The institute will consist of a leadership conference and monthly workshops on leadership methods, decision making skills, goal setting, social justice, public speaking, self-expression, interpersonal communication, civic engagement and volunteering. This leadership program is aimed at encouraging and motivating Latina teen girls to make a difference in their community through leadership, self-expression and volunteerism. Young women will engage in interactive activities that will help them explore their own strengths and cultivate their leadership abilities. The program will run throughout the school semester.

ELIGIBILITY:
•Be a Hispanic girl in 9-12 grade
•Demonstrate an interest in volunteerism
•Demonstrate leadership capabilities
•Commit to entire school year
•Fulfill $20 annual membership fee to cover materials
(a limited number of need-base scholarships are available)
REQUIREMENTS:
•Organize 2 community service projects
•Complete a minimum of 20 volunteer hours during the semester
•Participate in January 29 training retreat
•Participate in fundraising projects
•Commit to attending monthly meetings throughout the semester (from January to May)

Girls in grades 4-8th are invited to join us for a multimedia adventure. In our monthly Saturday camps, girls have an opportunity to build confidence while learning how to express themselves creatively through photography, poetry, arts & crafts, cultural activities, short skits and more. TeenLatinitas.com is currently accepting applications for high school multimedia interns as well as freelance writers and editors. Latinitas is the first digital magazine by and for U.S. Latina youth. The digital magazine is published monthly on-line with articles about culture, entertainment, profiles and youth topics. From quinces to dating, advice to fashion and wellness to celebs, Latinas focuses on topics related to being a Latina teen today. To promote girl power, Latinitas is organizing the Chica Power Fest for middle school girls. This event is geared toward encouraging girls to build confidence, discover their voice, express themselves and make wise decisions. The event will feature informative and inspirational workshops, guest speakers, panelists, and multimedia presentations led by local female leaders on topics such as body image, confidence, peer pressure, media literacy, leadership, healthy relationships, cultural identity and bullying. Girls will discuss the challenges facing girls today and explore positive ways to deal with stress through hands-on creative expression activities revolving around poetry, acting, photography, art and song. The event is open to girls in grades 6th though 8th. Admission is free. Space is limited, so pre-registration is required. To register, call 239.5051 or email latinitaselpaso@yahoo.com.
